Enhancing Production Without Increasing Drilling

Matahio New Zealand has just completed a successful six-well workover campaign in its Cheal field. This has resulted in a 15% increase in Cheal production through low-cost production enhancement (i.e. without drilling).

Other than reviving and repairing wells, the main driver of the campaign was the conversion of existing rod-pump-producing wells to novel concentric jet pump-producing wells; an example of Matahio's Operations teams leveraging the latest technology to drive continuous improvement.

The implementation of this technology:

  1. Provides an avenue for continual production optimisation
  2. Safeguards the sustainability and resilience of our operation: concentric jet pumps, with no moving parts, are inherently more reliable than rod pumps
  3. Reduces the power requirement to produce the wells, which in turn reduces our carbon footprint

Drew Cadenhead, Matahio NZ Country Manager said:

“We are proud of the team’s innovation and collaborative spirit throughout yet another impactful and safe workover campaign. This kind of work perfectly demonstrates the ethos behind Matahio’s production operations approach in action; it is particularly important for our onshore fields here in Taranaki.”
